Midnight Run preparations in library
"Midnight Run" Midnight Run is a volunteer organization dedicated to finding common ground between the housed and the homeless.  Volunteers from churches, synagogues, schools and other civic groups distribute food, clothing, blankets and personal care items to the homeless poor on the streets of New York City.  St. Francis Prep students participate in the late-night relief efforts.  They spend weeks collecting clothing, hygiene products and then go out with chaperones on buses to distribute the goods.

A volunteer organization comprised of New York Hospital Queens employees called The "Freedom Medical Aid Team", has been collecting toys and items from Queens residents for the U.S. military for seven years.   "The students, faculty and staff at St. Francis Prep have been a very big contributor in this community effort over the years." said Peter Kwiath, an Assistant Ambulance Supervisor in the hospital's Department of Emergency Medicine.

Faculty member Maureen O'Neil, who served as the point of contact for the SFP students, said, "The toys benefit the children of deployed Army personnel from Fort Totten in Queens and other local reserve bases in the greater New York Region."   Due to continued deployment, many children will not see their parent/s during the upcoming holiday.

"St. Francis Prep has been proud to be part of this fine effort over the years." said Prep's assistant principal, Patrick McLaughlin.

Continuing the tradition that began with Sr. Joseph Agnes many years ago, St. Francis Prep was host to 700 guests.   Dozens of students, faculty and staff helped make it a splendid day for the guests.  "They served food, distributed gifts, greeted and brought holiday cheer to the guests.", said faculty member, Suzanne Camus.
