The 2011 Stephen J. Shurina Scholarship recipient is Allison Hourigan '14. Allison is currently a Sophomore at the Prep and is slated to receive a full scholarship for her next three years. Pictured below with Allison is (l-r): Tia Shurina '82, Steve Shurina ’84, Susie Shurina ’88 and John Shurina ’86. The picture was taken at the 2nd Annual Stephen J. Shurina Scholarship Fund Golf Outing on September 22nd. The outing is named in memory of Stephen Shurina Sr. in honor of the family patriarch, Stephen J. Shurina, who passed away in 2009.
Mr. Shurina sent all five of his children to both St. Sebastian’s and St. Francis Prep: Anne-Marie '80, Patricia (Tia) ‘82, Stephen ‘84, John ‘86, and Susan '88.
All proceeds from the outing are directed to a privately managed foundation established in their father's memory. It's goal is to provide
a full scholarship to a worthy student-athlete from St. Sebastian’s to
attend St. Francis Prep. The foundation's board members also provide leadership training, as
well as mentoring from leaders from various professions.
Scholarship recipients are expected to uphold standards of excellence in the classroom, in athletic competition and within the community. The Foundation may also use proceeds to send the scholarship recipients to athletic camps to enhance
their athletic abilities as needed.
The goal of this all-encompassing scholarship is to help produce well-rounded
student leaders who will then be in a position to "give back."
Congratulations to Allison and to all involved in the Foundation's mission!
Thank you everyone involved in supporting this wonderful scholarship opportunity!
