Mary Curley Leptak, Class of 1983 honored with "Best Teacher Award"

Mary Curley Leptak, SFP Class of 1983,  attended the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese (AATSP) awards event on April 17th.  She was honored with the AATSP Metropolitan N.Y. Chapter 2016 Outstanding Teacher of the Year Award. Mary was nominated by her colleagues and unanimously chosen to receive the award.  She received many outstanding letters of support, including those from her superintendent and principal which cited her outstanding professionalism as well as her ability to instill a love of learning in her students.

Congratulations, Mary!  Thanks for all that you do as an educator.  You are a fine reflection of the spirit of St. Francis Prep!

Eastchester Middle School Students, Teacher Win Awards

They attended the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese awards ceremony.

EASTCHESTER, NY - Three Eastchester Middle School students and teacher Mary Leptak attended the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese (AATSP) awards event on April 17.

Middle School students Alexa Cantreva and Sophia Sabelja's website on Guatemala was selected as the winner of the Metropolitan New York Chapter's competition in the digital category for creating a website in Spanish about Guatemala and its culture and history.

Sakura Abdel-Rahman, a student in Mrs. Katherine Shay’s Spanish class, won first place in the chapter's poster competition with artwork depicting symbols of Guatemalan culture.

Mary Leptak won Best Spanish Teacher. Cantreva and Sabelja will be donating their monetary prize to the "Education for the Children" Organization.

AATSP promotes the study and teaching of the Spanish and Portuguese languages and their corresponding Hispanic, Luso-Brazilian and other related literatures and cultures at all levels of education, organizers said..
