St. Francis Prep's commitment to providing an outstanding, well-rounded, Catholic education was reaffirmed earlier this month when it was announced that senior Diana Lee's art portfolio was selected for the Gold Key Award by the Alliance for Young Artists and Writers, Inc.
“Prep attracts many gifted students to its art program primarily because of the level of sophistication and talent of our art department faculty,” Principal Bro. Leonard Conway, O.S.F. remarked. Long known for its rigorous academics, Prep has grown its Art Program in size and scope over the past 25 years; and it continues to earn recognition and great praise from outside organizations, parents, and former students.
The Alliance for Young Artists and Writers is a New York City based agency which consists of a diversified panel of accomplished artists, art educators and top industry professionals. This year, students from across the country (over 140,000) produced and submitted their work for review. Here in New York City, more than 2,200 works were submitted—the largest in the program's history. Diana Lee's portfolio was selected as one of the best and it will advance to the program's national judging in March.
“We are excited that Diana's work was among the most accomplished works in our region,” praised Prep Art department chairperson and alumna Lisa Schaefer-Heuer. “There is something about Prep that attracts many of the best student-artists in the area. Their talent and work ethic, not only in art, but in all of their subject areas, is really inspiring to me both as a teacher and as a Prep graduate. Diana's work really affirms St. Francis Prep's fine reputation.”
