Council honors DSNY’s Frosch
The City Council has voted to co-name a Middle Village street after a father gone too soon.
On Jan. 22, a bill to rename 67th Drive between 78th and 79th streets after Sanitation Department worker Steven Frosch, who died last June in a workplace accident, was unanimously passed and it now heads to Mayor de Blasio’s desk.
Frosch, a married father of four, including an infant, was killed last June 21 as he was performing maintenance on a street sweeper at the Sanitation depot in Maspeth. He was accidentally pinned and crushed to death by a second street sweeper, driven by a colleague.
Councilwoman Elizabeth Crowley (D-Glendale), the bill’s primary sponsor, said in a statement that Frosch was a devoted man who gave everything he had to his wife, children and community.
“His tragic death should serve as a reminder to all of us about the very real risks our uniformed workers take every single day,” Crowley said. “Throughout his life, Steven truly personified New York’s Finest, Bravest and Strongest and he deserves to be recognized our city.”
