On Sunday, November 2nd, alumni, family and friends gathered at the Prep for the blessing of the latest additions of memorial bricks on the Pathway to St. Francis in conjunction with the Annual Alumni Memorial Mass and Brunch. Click here for photos.
Prior to the start of Mass and the "Blessing of the Bricks" which were both presided over by Prep Chaplain, Father Bill Sweeney, the school's Principal, Bro. Leonard Conway, O.S.F., hosted a brief ceremony where student recipients of two scholarships, their families and benefactors gathered as:
Paulette H‘08 and Vincent A. Toscano ‘53 presented Gustavo Moscoso ‘12 with the award from the scholarship fund established in their name, thereby continuing their commitment that a freshman, sophomore, junior and senior student at Prep (at least one student from each class) will be a holder of this scholarship in perpetuity;
Former Track Coach Jim McHugh and the organizers of The Bernice and James J. McHugh H'92 Scholarship Fund (including Ed Kennedy '57 and Dan Corry '58) presented Sheila Ahmady ‘09 with this year's award.
Altogether, more than 400 alumni, friends and family members gathered at this event which included a touching liturgy that honored the memories of all members of the Prep community who passed away over the last twelve months. Alumni Board President, Wally Bishop '80, and former President, Gerry Scales '76, read each name as family members processed down the center aisle of the auditorium and placed candles at the altar in remembrance of their loved one. Alumni Director, Brother Robert Kent, O.S.F., offered some timely closing remarks.
Following Mass, attendees moved into the gymnasium for the “Raising of Memorial Banners” as yet another tribute to former Terrier athletes who have passed away—many at very young ages. This year's memorial honorees included: John O'Donnell '71, John Downing '79, Jeffrey Calero '91, and Brian O'Reilly '01. After the ceremonies, guests gathered in the cafeteria for a hearty brunch and good fellowship.
