Joanne Persico '84 Notches 400th Win As Head Volleyball Coach
St. John's head coach Joanne Persico earned the 400th win of her 21-year coaching career Saturday afternoon (October 4th) as the Red Storm defeated Providence, 3-0 (25-21, 25-16, 25-14) in Carnesecca Arena. Several family members, friends and alumni were in attendance to witness the milestone as St. John’s posted its 10th sweep of the season.
“I am really proud of what we have been able to accomplish here since I helped start this program in 1994. I am very thankful and proud of all of players that have played for me, including the student-athletes that were out there today,” said Persico.
“We have a program that has a richness about it that transcends wins and losses, and I believe that it is exemplified in the type of student-athletes that we have been able to graduate here at St. John's University. It means a lot to to reach 400 wins at one school, and it shows our consistency over the last 21 years.”
Joanne is a member of the St. Francis Prep Board of Trustees and an active participant in the St. Francis Prep Alumni community as a member of the Class of 1984.
This past March, Joanne was inducted into the SFP Terrier Red and Blue Ring of Honor at the inaugural Gala on March 15th.
Congratulations to Joanne on this incredible milestone!
