Marc Hamlin ’84 has been with the Tampa Police Department
since 1990. He spent over
seven years as a detective and sergeant in undercover units of the Narcotics
Bureau and the Street Anti-Crime Squad. Hamlin
was recently promoted to the position of Major. In this position Hamlin will
command the city's Special Support Division.
As a captain, Hamlin has commanded the sector encompassing
downtown and Ybor
City since 2005. During
his command, crime has fallen 29.7 % in Ybor City.
He is also the commander of game day operations at Raymond James Stadium and is
heavily involved in the planning of Super Bowl XLIII. In District III, Hamlin
has worked very closely with the Ybor City Development Corporation, The
Downtown Partnership and the Homeless Coalition of Hillsborough County. He has
also been a trustee on the City of Tampa
Fire and Police Pension Fund since 1999 and was
Chairman of the Board for four of those years.
Marc holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice from Marist College
in Poughkeepsie, NY
and a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from Troy State University. Marc is also a graduate of
the University of
Louisville’s Southern
Police Institute, where he was a Dean Scholar Award winner and President of the
106th Administrative Officers Course.
Marc and his wife Paige have been ardent supporters of the St. Francis Prep Florida Alumni Chapter for several years. In early March of this year, more than 60 alumni and guests gathered in the Hamlin's home for a dinner reception following a pre-season Yankee game.
Congratulations Marc! We wish you continued success in your new position!
