LeeAnne Burke, a guidance counselor who began working at the Prep three years ago, passed away in the hospital on January 25th as a result of complications related to meningitis. She was 27 years old.
"LeeAnne was here a short time, but she had an tremendous impact on the Prep community from day one", noted Brother Leonard Conway, O.S.F., Principal of St. Francis Prep. "She was very involved in the school community, cared about her students and truly loved her work".
At her funeral, there were many tears and even some laughter as friends, colleagues and students eulogized her. Known for being outspoken on topics of religion, the Prep's Chaplian, Fr. Bill Sweeney recalled, "I always told her, LeeAnne, I hope you go before I do because you'll be so busy arguing with God, I might be able to sneak in the back," Fr. Bill's comment drew laughter from the overfllowing pews at Malverne Bible Church in Malverne, where the funeral took place. A student who had Burke as a guidance counselor remembered her as "a wonderful lady."
She will be missed by everyone. Please keep the Burke family in your prayers!
