Two Prep Students Named Intel Science Talent Search Semifinalists

St. Francis Prep is proud to announce that two students, Eleanor Reilly '08 and Anuradha Singh '08, have been named 2008 Intel Science Talent Search (Intel STS) semifinalists!

The Intel STS is America’s oldest and most prestigious science competition—often called the “junior Nobel Prize”—it brings together the best and the brightest young scientific minds in America. Six former STS finalists have gone on to win the Nobel Prize.

This recognition is compelling testimony to the quality of Prep’s students in general, and to its science program in particular. Just consider the following statistics:

  • Prep’s two semifinalists were selected from among 1,602 entrants hailing from 45 states;

  • St. Francis Prep is the only Catholic school in the nation with more than one semi-finalist this year;

  • St. Francis Prep has had one semifinalist (and, in some years, two) for 10 consecutive years, and the Prep is the only Catholic school in the nation that can make this claim!

“Prep continues to produce outstanding students because we have an excellent faculty who are as enthusiastic about their subject area as they are in their student’s academic growth and development” said principal Bro. Leonard Conway, O.S.F.

For example, Prep’s science department faculty members voluntarily provide after-school (night and weekend) review sessions for interested students. The sessions are well-attended. Student interest in science has not gone unnoticed by the administration.

“We are planning for a major overhaul of our science labs as well as our art studios, athletics and extracurricular facilities this coming year.” Bro. Leonard noted.  This planned facilities upgrade coincides with the Prep’s 150th Anniversary as well as Bro. Leonard’s 25th year as Principal of the school.

Please join us in congratulating Eleanor Reilly and Anuradha Singh on their accomplishments! They serve to enhance the already fine reputation of St. Francis Prep!
