Dennis J. Carey, 95 of Greenport NY, formerly of Remsenburg and Sands Point, NY and North Palm Beach, FL died on February 26th in Greenport.
Born on January 5, 1918 in Brooklyn, NY, the son of Denis and Margaret Collins Carey. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Clare and children Robert, Gregory (Diana), Geoffrey and Cynthia Lalone (Charles), eight grandchildren, brother Martin (Millicent) and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son Denis (DJ) and brothers Edward, Hugh, John and George.
A gifted athlete, Dennis was a graduate of St. Francis Prep, St. Johns University and St Johns Law School, where he edited The Law Review. A decorated Veteran and pilot (Bronze Star, Army Air Medal), he served with distinction in World War II and the Korean War.
Dennis served for many years as president and CEO of Peerless Petrochemicals. Active in charities, he was a Knight of Malta and the Holy Sepulchre. Dennis loved language, literature, history and golf. The Carey's wish to express their gratitude to the staff of the Shores at Peconic Landing. Friends may visit Friday 2-4pm and 7-9pm at Horton-Mathie Funeral Home in Greenport. Funeral Mass, Saturday March 2, 11am, St. Agnes Church, Greenport. Gifts in his memory may be made to St Agnes Church or East End Hospice.
