Passing of Ed Joyce, Former Head Coach of Girl's Track and Field and Cross Country

Ed Joyce, the former head coach of girl's track and field and cross country at St. Francis Preparatory School, passed away yesterday after a long battle with cancer.  He was in his eighth season as a member of the Fordham Track and Field Coaching staff. 

In the late 1970's and early 1980's, Joyce led the St. Francis girl's track and field and cross country teams to eight city championships.

Following his tenure at Prep, Joyce served as the Public School Athletic League (PSAL) Track Commissioner, helping the PSAL to numerous state and national titles.

A graduate of St. John's University, Joyce was a member of the track and field squads while an undergraduate, winning various Metropolitan Championships.

Joyce was a certified USA Track and Field official who served as the track and field coordinator for the Empire State Games. He retired recently as an Assistant Principal with the New York City Board of Education, after serving with the Board of Education for 33 years.

His wake will take place at Frederick's Funeral Home in Flushing, New York on Tuesday (7-9 PM) and Wednesday (2-5 PM, 7-9 PM) with his funeral on Thursday at 9:45 AM at St. Kevin's RC Church. Further details are listed below.
