On Wednesday, November 18th, The Frank McGuire Foundation
will celebrate its 11th Year of honoring outstanding high school coaches at its Annual Awards Dinner
at The New York Athletic Club. Five distinguished varsity coaches who are inspirational leaders in their schools and communities will receive grants of $5,000 in support of their school athletic program. One of this year’s honorees is our very own Brother Robert Kent, and we hope to have a good turnout at this event on his behalf. The Frank McGuire Foundation
celebrates high school coaches who exemplify integrity, achievement and a continual quest for excellence from themselves and their athletes. The Frank McGuire Award
honors the coach who perseveres and succeeds in making the job a higher calling, one that inspires young people to improve themselves in all aspects of life…a coach who lives in the memory of Frank McGuire. Forty three coaches have received this award to-date and the Foundation has given their school programs a total of $410,000.
I have had an opportunity to meet with so many alumni over the years who have expressed their deep appreciation and love for Brother Robert. He has been an extraordinary coach and teacher over the past 40 years and most recently has been instrumental in bringing so many alumni back to the Prep in his role as Alumni Director.
Congratulations to the 2009 Honoree Coaches:
Coach Mike Epstein - Lacrosse - Brien McMahon High School, Norwalk, CT
Coach Dino Garr - Football - Rye High School, Rye, NY
Brother Robert Kent - Baseball – St. Francis Prep, Fresh Meadows, NY
Coach Victor Paternostro - Football - Pope John High School, Sparta, NJ
Coach Beth Powell - Volleyball - Northern Regional High School, Demarest, NJ
The cocktail hour begins at 6:00 PM and dinner follows at 7:00.
