Thank you for your support!

St. Francis Prep has a long and illustrious history of recognizing, honoring and paying tribute to its outstanding alumni, especially those who have gone far before it was their time.

Daniel Thomas Apicella, Class of 2000, was a standout basketball player through his years at Prep. He was labeled a “Super Soph” by the Daily News during the first of his three years on the Varsity team. Any accolades or accomplishments Dan had on the basketball court were eclipsed by the high level of character Dan displayed in all aspects of his life. Known among his friends for his bright smile and sunny disposition, Dan was nothing short of a pleasure to be around. His generosity and giving nature embodied the Franciscan spirit, so it came as no surprise to those who knew him when Dan chose to become an EMT. Dan’s effect on others and his ability to become an instant friend was no more evident than by the outpouring of condolences his family received at the time of his untimely passing.

While losing someone with so much more to give is heartbreaking, those close to Dan would tell you that he would want a positive to come out of this hardship. To keep Dan’s generous spirit alive we have established a special scholarship fund in his honor. Each year an exceptional junior on the Boys Varsity Basketball team will be selected to receive a scholarship for his final year in Dan’s name.

Won’t you please consider sharing significantly in our history and support such a fitting and worthy cause?

On Friday, October 2, 2015, the Saint Francis Prep Annual Homecoming Golf Outing and Barbecue will be brought back to Clearview Golf Course in Memory of Daniel Apicella, Class of 2000. In addition to the outing, donations to the scholarship can be made at the annual alumni night at C.J. Sullivan’s on that same date (October 2nd).

This golf outing, with your support, will help perpetuate Dan’s memory and help establish the Daniel Apicella, Class of 2000, Scholarship Fund.

If your schedule doesn’t permit you to join us for golf, anything you can do to support this special event would be very much appreciated and most welcome.

Sincerely,

Jonathan Pereira ‘99,  Kevin Wagner ‘01,
Jimmy Lynch ‘99 and Brother Robert Kent, O.S.F.
